Shaping form
If you don't like the shape the Java moss got in your aquarium over time, you can prune it back. Orientate yourself to the desired shape. Keep in mind that the Java moss is growing slowly. Strong cutbacks accordingly require more time until the loss is made up again.
Thin out Java moss
Java moss has many fine shoots that can tangle with one another. A felt-like mesh is quickly created. It may be that the moss still looks appealing. However, in this tangle of branches, suspended particles easily get stuck. The Java moss becomes more and more dirty over time. Thinning out with scissors is one way to remedy this.
- use sharp, clean scissors
- cut off individual branches
- until there is enough free space in the green
Tips
Be careful when you touch the Java moss when you cut it. Individual parts can easily break off and float like thin threads in the water.
Sucking instead of cutting
If you don't want to take anything away from the Java moss, but still want to get rid of the dirt, you can vacuum or wash the moss. With Java moss, which in the aquarium is like that attached if it is not easy to remove, washing up is more difficult. Only a sludge vacuum comes into consideration.
Even if the sludge vacuum cleaner is often used in aquariums, Java moss has to be vacuumed cautiously from a distance. If the teat gets too close to the tender moss, damage cannot be ruled out.
