Like its cultural ancestors, the hawthorn prefers it to be sunny. When there is plenty of light, it blooms most profusely - and the beautiful, double, carmine-red panicles are ultimately the special charm of the hawthorn. If possible, choose a free spot for the planting - if the choice of location is more likely to be a hedge due to its practical purpose is limited, but you value a beautiful abundance of flowers, consider cutting or growing taller trees nearby felling.
Improve the ground if necessary
When it comes to substrate, the hawthorn has similar preferences as the hawthorn: it should be rich in nutrients, fresh and have a rather high, i.e. alkaline pH value. If you are not sure, test the floor with a floor test set from a specialist store. If the soil turns out to be too acidic, simply work in some lime. In addition, a good amount of ripe compost is very profitable to achieve the necessary nutritional content.

You can plant the hawthorns at any time of the year as long as there is no frost. Spring is ideal and you can still plant well in autumn before the first frosts.
It is best to thoroughly hydrate the roots before planting. The best way to do this is to put them in a water bath for a few hours. After planting, compact the soil firmly all around and water it thoroughly. During the first few years and especially the first few weeks after planting, the soil should never dry out completely.
