The mold as the enemy of fresh blackberries

The biggest problem with the shelf life of blackberries is mold, which can often spread surprisingly quickly. Keep it in the refrigerator harvested blackberries therefore usually only for a maximum of two days. But even in unharvested form, blackberries often fall victim to mold on the perennial. This always happens when there are extended periods of moisture with persistent rainfall in the middle of midsummer. In the absence of drying, the unripe fruits can then become moldy on the bush. Always remove such fruits immediately by removing them cut off and throw on the compost. Otherwise, the moldy fruits very quickly infect the remaining fruits on a blackberry bush with mold.

Processing after harvest

Allow some time for processing immediately after collecting the blackberries if you do not want to eat the fruit fresh. Before any further processing, blackberries that have been collected in the wild should be washed thoroughly with clear water to avoid contamination with the dangerous

Freezing blackberries

Freezing is also a great way to keep blackberries almost indefinitely. Before freezing, you should first wash the collected fruits thoroughly and carefully dry them with kitchen paper. Then freeze the blackberries in portions in bowls or freezer bags. Even if the fruit does not have the consistency of fresh blackberries after thawing, the taste and nutrients for use in cakes and sundaes are definitely retained. You can also use a blender to puree the fresh and washed blackberries before freezing them. Freeze the blackberry pulp in an ice cube mold and you will receive fruity ice cubes for refining summer soft drinks.
