The essential oils of peppermint only develop properly when the soil is warm but not overheated. Excessive heat, such as that created in direct sunlight, burns the oil. If the soil is too cool, for example due to a windy location, the oil can only develop insufficiently.
The right soil quality
Peppermint grows on almost any soil, as long as it has enough nutrients and is not too moist. You should consider a depleted location before Sow or improve plants through compost. Otherwise, try something organic every now and then fertilizer respectively.
Peppermint does not tolerate waterlogging at all. The soil must therefore be permeable to water. Solid clay soils are not suitable for peppermint. Sometimes it helps to loosen up heavy, compacted soil by adding sand.
Location on the balcony
If you put your peppermint in the pot on the balcony place the bucket in partial shade and protected from the wind. Here, too, you should make sure that the floor does not heat up too much from direct sunlight.
Tips & Tricks
Peppermint doesn't like to stand too close together. Keep enough distance from other plants. This allows the air to circulate better and the formation of mildew or pest infestation is significantly reduced.
