Propagation by cuttings

Propagation with head, shoot and stem cuttings is possible:

• Head cuttings: Cut off the tip of a shoot with two or three leaves, about ten to fifteen centimeters long. Cut below a leaf knot.
• Shoot cuttings: Side shoots (Kindel), which are further cultivated independently from the mother plant.
• Trunk cuttings: Simply cut trunk parts into pieces with at least two eyes when pruning. These eyes (buds), from which the leaves will later sprout, look like small knots.

Insert cuttings or Kindel

Proceed as follows:

• The interface with Rooting powder to sprinkle.
• Flower pots with commercially available Potting soil, better with low nutrient Potting soil to fill.
• Insert cuttings.
• Pour on and cover with a clear plastic bag or a hood.
• Place the potty in a bright, shady spot on the windowsill.
• Ventilate daily so that there is no mold.
• Keep it evenly moist but not too wet.

Trunk cuttings are placed in planters so that the eyes point upwards. A translucent hood also supports the shoot here. Leaves quickly grow from the buds and the roots develop on the underside.

The offshoots usually produce fresh green after just four weeks. Then remove the hood and continue to cultivate the small plants on the windowsill.

Alternatively, you can place head cuttings in a vase filled with water and only plant them in soil when roots have formed

Multiplication by division

You can do vigorously grown Dieffenbachia when repotting divide in spring and multiply in this way.

• Take the plant out of the pot.
• Gently knead the root ball until it breaks into two or three pieces.
• If necessary, use a sharp, clean knife to help.

Put the individual parts of the plant back into standard potting soil. The division also succeeds in hydroponic plants that have grown too large, either in soil or Expanded clay(€ 16.35 at Amazon *) can be set easily.

sowing

Should your Dieffenbachia bloom, you can harvest seeds from the rather inconspicuous, white flowers. These are placed in water for one night and then on Sowing soil scattered. Cover with a thin layer of substrate and place a cover over the cultivation vessel.

Place it in a warm place on the windowsill, the temperature should be at least 22 degrees all day. Unfortunately, even then, the seeds do not always germinate, since the mother plants are often hybrids.
