Propagate the avocado over the seed core

The easiest way to propagate an avocado is from the seed core. With it you'll get two methods: With the more common water method, the core is first brought in a water glass to form roots before it is planted in suitable soil. But the second method also promises good success: To do this, put the core straight into a flower pot filled with soil and keep the substrate evenly moist. But don't lose patience: Depending on the variety and size of the kernel, an avocado needs several weeks to months before the first tender shoots can be seen.

Pull the avocado plant out of a cutting

It is unusual, but still possible, to grow an avocado from a cutting. Avocados should be capped regularlyso that they branch out and develop a lush bush. However, you do not have to throw away the capped tip; you can use it to grow another sapling. However, you need a lot of patience for this, because propagation via a cuttings takes longer than propagation via the seed core. In addition, this method is more complicated.

How to grow plants from a cuttings:

  • Choose shoots from an older, preferably already woody, avocado
  • Renew the water regularly
  • Water occasionally with an auxin mixture enrich
  • Cutting Potting in suitable soilas soon as roots have formed
  • have a lot of patience

Let the cuttings take root in a water bath

To do this, place the cutting in a glass filled with stale, room-temperature water and place it in a bright, protected location. Be sure to change the water regularly and with a few drops of an auxin mixture from time to time (these are plant growth hormones, enriched with vitamins and available in every horticultural center) to enrich. It can take a few months for the first roots to form.

Tips & Tricks

The auxin mixture ensures that the cutting receives enough nutrients and does not shed its leaves. They are also referred to as "root driver fixes" and can easily be made by yourself. To do this, dissolve 1 g of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in acetone and fill up the mixture with two liters of water. Complete!
