Damage from frost or drought during the winter months
Not all varieties of the evergreen cherry laurel are complete hardy. Frost damage often only shows in the following spring, when the foliage of the woodland turns brown and dries up. Since the cherry laurel evaporates a lot of moisture through the leaves on sunny winter days, damage caused by drought is not uncommon. The frozen earth makes it impossible for the plant to make up for the loss of fluid.

Cut frozen or dried-up shoots deep into the healthy wood. As a preventive measure, you should offer the cherry laurel sufficient winter protection in very rough areas. Water the wood on frost-free days.
Cutting error
Use when Pruning the cherry laurel hedge motorized scissors, you will unnecessarily injure many leaves. The leaf margin turns brown, the foliage dries up and is then thrown off the plant. You should therefore only use mechanical cutting tools when pruning the cherry laurel.
Diseases and pests
If the foliage of the cherry laurel shows small reddish-brown spots that are repelled by the plant after a while, it could be the Shotgun Sickness Act. It is triggered by a fungus that multiplies explosively, especially in damp summers, and can lead to the complete death of the plant.
In the case of light infestation, it may be sufficient to cut off the affected leaves and collect any fallen leaves from the ground. Destroy the plant parts in the household waste, as the fungus survives in the compost and is redistributed in the garden when the fertilizer is applied. If the infestation is more severe, the shotgun is treated with sprayings with fungicides, which are repeated once or twice at fourteen-day intervals.
