Static foils and self-adhesive foils as privacy screens
Self-adhesive or static privacy protection films are most frequently found in stores (adhesive film). The attachment of these privacy screens is very easy, as no glue is required for assembly. This also has the advantage that the privacy film can be removed quickly and without leaving any residue if necessary. The following utensils are required for attachment:- Glass cleaner and microfiber cloth
- Tape measure
- Pen
- Utility knife or sharp scissors
- ruler
- cut-resistant base
- Spray bottle, distilled water and dishwashing detergent
- duct tape
- Squeegee
1. The window is cleaned thoroughly. There are stubborn stains on it, such as paint stains or
hardened splashes, a ceramic hob scraper or a glass scraper can be used to remove.2. The pane of glass is measured precisely with a tape measure. It is important not to measure the rubber seal on the edge, but really only measure the glass.
3. The measurements are transferred to the privacy screen film with a ruler and pen. Make sure that the dimensions are marked on the backing paper.
4. The film is cut to size with a cutter knife or sharp scissors. Experience has shown that a cutter knife is the better choice because it makes it easier to produce clean cut edges. If the knife is used, work must of course be carried out on a cut-resistant surface. In addition, a ruler or a board should be used as a cutting aid - the knife is simply drawn along the applied edge.
5. A clean spray bottle is filled with distilled water. Two drops of commercially available washing-up liquid are added per liter of water.
6. The window pane is completely moistened with this mixture.
7. A piece of adhesive tape is stuck to each corner of the backing paper. This makes it easier to remove the backing paper. The paper is removed with this "grip aid". This can be a bit difficult and can be compared to removing the carrier film from double-sided adhesive tape.
8. When the backing paper is completely
is withdrawn, the water-detergent mixture is sprayed on it. The foil should also be completely moistened. It helps to moisten not only the foil, but also your own fingers with the solution.9. The film is aligned from top to bottom on the window and gently pressed on. It should be straight on all edges. Then the film and window are moistened again with the water-washing-up liquid mixture.
10. Use the squeegee to remove moisture, air bubbles and wrinkles. The squeegee is placed in the middle of the privacy film and pulled from here to the right and left until there are no more bubbles under the film. The moisture escaping at the edges is wiped away with a cloth.
After a drying time of two days, the window can be wiped and cleaned as usual if necessary. Until then, however, larger forces acting on the film should be avoided. In addition to mere privacy films, which are intended to keep unwanted glances away through colors, patterns or a milky tint, there are also sun protection films. They have a reflective surface and therefore reflect a certain proportion of the solar radiation. This can prevent the rooms from heating up too much in summer. Some versions also offer insulation against heat loss in winter. As a rule, the foils are transparent from the inside due to their reflective surface, but prevent outside views. In most variants, however, this only applies until the light is switched on in the room. If the interior is illuminated, you can look in from the outside.
Tip: If you want reliable privacy protection even when the lights are on, you should opt for milky or colored privacy protection films. A potential disadvantage with these, however, is that they also restrict the view from the inside to the outside.
Privacy film - apply inside or outside?
Whether it is a pure privacy film or a sun protection film, it is important to know in any case whether the film has to be applied inside or outside. Pure privacy protection films are usually attached to the inside of the pane. In the case of sun protection and privacy protection films, however, it may be necessary to apply them to the outside of the panes. It is important to attach it to the outer side of the pane, because otherwise the window glass will heat up and crack and break due to strong temperature differences.Tip: Pay close attention to the manufacturer's instructions here.
Remove privacy film - this is how it works
If the privacy film is no longer attractive or has to be removed when moving, many people struggle with a scraper. A special glass scraper can also do a good job, but removing it is relatively difficult and tedious. However, there is a simple trick when it comes to peeling it off that only requires the following steps:
1. A mixture of water and detergent is applied to the window or to the film. The slide should be completely moistened.
2. A non-adhesive, waterproof film is placed over the pane. It can be attached to the frame with tape to prevent the moisture from evaporating.
3. After about three hours of exposure time, you can begin to peel off the privacy film at the corners and edges. The special glass scraper mentioned above can be of great service here.
If the film can only be removed well in parts, the soaking process with the water-detergent mixture can also be repeated several times. The film is soaked, the moisture allowed to act and then the privacy screen is peeled off as much as possible before it is soaked again. This procedure is particularly recommended for larger window panes, because it means less stubborn residues remain on the glass and the overall removal with less effort connected is.
