When to expect flowers
Hemp palms that are grown in the house in a bucket rarely bloom. Planted out in the open show their yellow flowers regularly from April to June if the following conditions are met:
- the palm is doing well, it gets optimal care
- it is already "grown up", with a trunk height of at least 1 m
- the location is very bright

Individual flowers form into inflorescences
What looks like a flower from a distance is actually an inflorescence made up of a large number of individual flowers. The panicle is multi-branched and hangs down on a thick stem. It can be 70 to 90 cm tall. A palm tree can have several inflorescences at the same time. After withering, the panicles wilt and dry up, but remain on the palm until they are cut off by the palm owner.
Male and female palms
Externally not noticeable at first, there are actually only female and male hemp palms. Both bloom, but not exactly the same. While the flowers of a male palm shine bright yellow, those of the female palm are more greenish. Female flowers also appear bushier overall.
Pollination and seed collection
In order for flowers to be pollinated, you need a female and a male palm. You also have to take care of pollination yourself. To do this, first stroke a brush several times over a fully opened male flower and then over a female one.
Fruits can only form on female flowers. In our latitudes it is unlikely that you can actually harvest purple-blue, fully ripened specimens. They would be edible.
Cut off for more leaf shoots
The formation of flowers and seeds binds a lot of energy. If you want to gain seeds in order to propagate the home Hemp palm to dare, you should leave the flower anyway. Of course, even if you find the palm with the inflorescence enchanting.
Rather, sit up growth and would like more green leaves, you should start flowering early cut.
