All shoots are now cut down to about 20 cm. Don't you want to be so radical? Then cut the shoots back to 40 cm. More should not remain. Otherwise, the growth will suffer and as a result, the hybrid tea will weaken to bloom.

Furthermore, when pruning, you should remove all shoots that are already too old, rotten to flower, withered, too weak or even dead. They are removed down to the trunk. Alternatively, you can also carry out the thinning later.

Orientate towards the weather - it shouldn't be frosty

If you don't want to go out into the garden all the time to see if the flower buds are sprouting, then prune the hybrid tea roses when the forsythias are in full bloom. In some places this is already the case at the end of February. Elsewhere, the time has come towards the end of March / beginning of April. The bloom of the forsythia is the sign that there is no longer any threat of strong frosts.

  • each shoot: at least 3 and a maximum of 6 buds after cutting
  • Completely remove 1 to 2 old shoots every year
  • cut diagonally
  • to an outward one eye cut back

Clean out old flowers during the summer

In order to stimulate the development of new flowers, the withered flowers are cut off. Cut the flowers or In summer, shoot at least under the rose petal that is under the flowers.

Sick shoots should be removed immediately!

If the planted hybrid tea roses are ailing, a cut must be made:

  • old sorts are more susceptible to disease (mildew, Rose rust, Sooty)
