How does rust come about?

Rust is the result when oxygen, water and iron oxidize. It is not, just a layer on the surface of the material. Rust eats its way into the iron, so to speak, and makes it porous. Therefore, you should be careful when working with elements that are already rusting.

Let the iron rust

You need:

  • ferrous metal
  • Swimming pool cleaner
  • 10% hydrochloric or acetic acid
  • Sandpaper
  • First of all, you need to cut the galvanization of the metal.
  • To do this, mix 0.25 L swimming pool cleaner with 0.75 L ml water.
  • Soak the metal in the solution for a few hours.
  • Rinse the metal well.
  • Roughen the surface with the sandpaper.
  • This way you speed up the oxidation.
  • Spray the metal with hydrochloric or acetic acid.
  • Then wash it off again with water.
  • Wait until a layer of rust has formed.
  • Either you use already shaped objects to make the grate or you bring simple ones metal to rust and process it later Bullets or characters.
