The best location for ivy and clematis

Like clematis, ivy likes it more shady. Both plants prefer partial shade Locations.

caution is advised, as clematis must be fertilized more often, while ivy can only tolerate moderate fertilization.

Both plants need a trellis on which they can climb up. Wooden walls, on which the ivy roots can find adequate support, are well suited.

Proper care for ivy and clematis as neighbors

If possible, give clematis a head start in growth by planting the plants a year or two earlier. They will then be nice and strong and will not allow the ivy to overgrow so quickly.

Ivy doesn't grow quite as abundantly for the first two years. From the third year on, however, you have to prune it regularly so that it does not restrict the more delicate clematis too much.

Both plants are poisonous. Therefore, always wear gloves when cutting ivy and clematis!
