Put poinsettia on the window sill over the summer

  • warm
  • bright

After flowering, however, only green leaves are formed. If you have enough space, you can put the poinsettia a little cooler in the summer. Water less during this time than during the main flowering period.

Bring poinsettias outside in summer

The poinsettia likes it even better than on the windowsill when you summer it outside on the balcony or terrace.

Place the pot in a place protected from drafts, where it is warm and light. However, too much direct midday sun is not suitable.

To prevent the substrate from becoming too moist, protect the poinsettia from heavy downpours. If it is dry, do not water it until the top layer of the soil has dried off. Do not place the pot on a coaster. Then excess water can run off and you avoid the plant standing in waterlogging.

Bring them back to the house in good time

Poinsettias do not tolerate anything frost. They are most fond of Temperatures between 20 and 26 degrees. When it gets cooler outside, you need to bring the plant back inside. The poinsettia dies at less than five degrees.

Without a dark phase, there are no colored bracts

In order for the poinsettia to develop colored bracts again, it needs a longer phase with little light.

He should no longer get eleven, maximum twelve hours of light per day. Put it in the dark for six to eight weeks or cover the plant with a cardboard box or an opaque bag for an hour.

Tips

Some hobby gardeners swear by planting the poinsettia in the bed in summer. All you have to do is remember to dig it up before you begin outdoors gets too cool.
