The simplest method: juicing with a pomegranate press
In Arab countries, where the pomegranate is native and particularly popular, pomegranates are juiced using a special pomegranate press. The pomegranates are halved and placed one half at a time in the press and pressed out by pressing down a lever. These pomegranate presses are very similar to the citrus presses with lever operation, which are somewhat more familiar to us. You can use them on oranges, lemons, and pomegranates alike.
Ordinary citrus presses are also an option for juicing pomegranates: just treat them like oranges. Be aware, however, that juicing pomegranates on a handheld citrus squeezer can splash a lot and the juice can be difficult to wash out of clothing. However, you can put the citrus juicer in the sink so the pomegranate juice doesn't splash too far.
The advantage of juicing with a pomegranate or citrus press is that the pomegranate does not have to be pitted beforehand.

Core the pomegranates
If you want to extract the juice from your pomegranates using a method other than using a pomegranate press, the first thing you need to do is get the juicy pomegranate seeds out of the pomegranate. There are bitter substances in the peel and the white partitions that should not go into the juice. When removing the stone, follow these steps to minimize the amount of juice lost on the cutting board:
- Roll the pomegranate back and forth on the countertop with a little pressure. This detaches the fruit kernels from the inside of the skin.
- With a sharp knife, cut into the peel about half a centimeter deep all around.
- Grab the fruit with both hands and divide it with a twisting motion in the opposite direction.
- The first seeds will tumble out of the pomegranate by themselves. Then hold the pomegranate halves over a bowl and tap out the remaining seeds with a spoon.
How to extract the juice from the pomegranate seeds
Now that you have a bowl full of pomegranate seeds there are several ways to juice them. Please note that pomegranate juice is healthiest when it has not been heated.
- Steam juicer: Fill the steam juicer according to the manufacturer's instructions, put it on the stove and after about an hour fill the heated juice.
- Cooking pot: Boil the pomegranate seeds with a little water for a quarter of an hour and then strain them through a sieve.
- Juicer: The pomegranate seeds are juiced fully automatically using centrifugal force in the device according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Juicer: Gently grind the pomegranate seeds in the electric juicer and allow them to be squeezed out.
