When is the snapdragon pricked?

The snapdragon cotyledons appear just one to three weeks after sowing. As soon as the second or third pair of leaves forms, at this point the plants are about five centimeters tall, they are separated. Each seedling now has its own pot in which it can continue to grow undisturbed.

How is it isolated?

Proceed as follows when pricking out:

  • Fill the potty with substrate, press it down a little and drill a small hole in the earth with a pricking stick.
  • Carefully lift the seedlings out of the seed container with the stick. Make sure that the tender roots of the snapdragon are not damaged.
  • Place each snapdragon individually in a container.
  • Put a little soil over the roots and water carefully.
  • A hood for creating an artificial greenhouse climate is no longer required.

Water moderately but regularly

The delicate roots of the snapdragons are extremely sensitive to waterlogging, but it is necessary to ensure sufficient moisture. Always water when the soil feels dry but without completely soaking the substrate.

Move to the open air

The closer you get to the date of planting, the more often and longer you should put the snapdragons in the fresh air. You will get used to the changed Location conditions and continue to grow well in the bed.

At first you shouldn't expose the little snapdragons to direct sun. An abrupt change from the sheltered house to the sunshine can cause sunburn on the leaves, which wilt and fall off. This greatly delays the desired bloom formation.

Tips

After the stress of pricking, the little snapdragons are often a bit “pricked”. However, they recover quickly and then keep drifting away.
