The planting season
Even if they Freesia bulbs you can buy them early in the spring, you shouldn't put them in the ground too early. Freesias aren't hardy and freeze to death very quickly. Only when the ice saints are reliably over does the planting time begin.

A few days before you want to plant your freesias, bring the tubers to a warm place where they can acclimate for a few days. Right before the plants soak the tubers in warm water. While they are still wet, they can be placed about five to ten centimeters deep in the ground and watered thoroughly again.
The heyday
Freesias usually bloom between August and October. The Heyday however vary by shifting the planting time. When planting in the garden, there is little room for maneuver. But if you would like to cultivate your freesias as a houseplant, then give it a try.
Season as a cut flower
Freesias aren't just that in the garden or very popular as houseplants, but also as cut flowers. In this form, their season lasts from January to June, the flowers are specially grown in greenhouses.
You can extend the life of your freesias in the vase a little by refrigerating them overnight or when you are away from home. This applies to both purchased and self-cut freesias.

- Planting time in the garden: end of May, after the ice saints
- Store tubers in a moderately warm, airy and dry place in winter
- Store the tubers warm shortly before planting
- Keep soil moist, but not wet
- Flowering period: August to October
- Make sure to let the leaves dry directly on the plant
Tips
An overwintered freesia does not always bloom again in the next year, it is only worth trying with large and completely undamaged tubers.
