Convertible roses sometimes sprout late

Often other plants that have been overwintered in the house are already fully in the sap and are floating vigorously while the convertible rose is still asleep. Carefully scratch the branch with your fingernail. If sap leaks, you can be quite sure that the convertible rose will soon kick out. You just have to be patient.

Bad ties in winter quarters

The fact that the plant sprouts so late, sometimes it can be the beginning of June before the first fresh green appears, is often due to less than ideal conditions in the winter quarters. A not too dark room with constant temperatures between five and ten degrees would be ideal. The root ball of the convertible rose should never dry out.

Cutting back stimulates budding

You can do that to stimulate new growth Cut back convertible rose a little. Remove any obviously dead shoots and shorten the branches by about a third.

Move to the open air

As long as there is no longer any threat of night frosts, you can put the convertible rose outside. The changed conditions often cause the plant to sprout and quickly form dense foliage. However, be careful not to place the convertible rose in the sun immediately. For the first two weeks, place the small shrub in a sheltered place without direct sunlight. If late night frosts are announced, the convertible rose must be brought back into the house overnight.

Tips

Convertible florets are a bit sensitive to lime. You should therefore water the plant all year round with decalcified water or use soft rainwater.
