Build the potato pyramid step by step
Potato pyramids can have two, three, four, or even more levels. The more layers, the prettier it looks and the more potatoes can naturally thrive in it.
Potato pyramids consist of square boxes that get smaller and smaller towards the top.
What you need for self-construction:
- Four strips each of the same width but of different lengths (the levels should differ by 10 to 30 cm in width so that the pyramid effect arises), e.g. B. 4 strips 120 cm long, 4 strips 90 cm long, 4 strips 65 cm in length and 4 strips 50 cm in length
- Nails and hammer or screws and drills
- good garden soil and compost (potatoes are heavy consumers!)
- potatoes

1. Build the boxes
Nail or screw the strips of the same length together to form a square.
2. Choosing the perfect location
Potatoes do best in the sun. Therefore, choose a location that is as sunny as possible for your potato pyramid.
3. Fill the potato pyramid
Fill the bottom level with soil and compact it by trampling on it (kids will love this part).
Then place the second box diagonally on the lowest level and fill it with soil, which you then trample down.
Then the next level diagonally to the one below, fill it with soil and compact it. Do the same for all remaining layers.
4. Plant the potato pyramid
Then distribute the potatoes. It is important that you keep a planting distance of about 30cm between each potato. However, the advantage of the pyramid is that this distance naturally only applies to the potatoes on the same level. This means that significantly more potatoes can be planted in a small space and harvested later.
