Clutter occurs when devices are stored on top of each other and are not used for a long period of time. If all devices, utensils and materials are neatly hanging on the wall, there can be no clutter. With the solutions below, you can quickly build your own wall bracket for large and small devices and require little or no manual skills.

Hook rails

Classic hook rails are still the best method today to securely hang up numerous garden tools, have them available within a short time and for use

Worrying about order in equipment cabinets. You could drill hooks directly into the wall at regular intervals, although this is not particularly recommended for rental houses. Hook strips, on the other hand, carry the hooks and are attached directly to the wall with a few screws. This gives you a lot of hanging space, as only one board can carry multiple hooks. However, you don't have to get down to work with the drill right away.

Hook rail made easy

Let hook bars

make yourself from a variety of materials that you may already have available. For this variant you only need the following utensils:
  • 1 x thick rope or 1 x bamboo stick
  • S-hooks in the required number of pieces

The hook rail is assembled as follows:

1. If you use a rope, attach it with two hooks. These are located at the ends of the rope so that it can be attached using knots or loops. If you use a particularly long rope, you should use additional ring hooks so that the rope does not sag too much in the middle.

2. Assembling a bamboo stick this way is a little harder. This is either attached directly to the wall with screws or placed on two objects and screwed to them. Robust cabinets or shelves that you have in the tool shed, for example, are suitable for this. Make sure that the rod does not slip.

3. Now simply hang the desired number on S-hooks on the rope or the bamboo stick. There is no easier way. This variant also has the advantage that you can position the hooks differently without having to screw or drill.

With this variant, you have tinkered a hook rail in a short time, which offers space for numerous garden tools. The only downside to a rope or bamboo stick is the maximum weight load.
Tip: For light and small garden tools, you can make it even easier if you have a used coat rack with hooks. Screw this to the wall in your workshop or the shed and you already have space for some gardening tools, from scissors to planting shovels to brooms.

Wooden hook rail: instructions

The classic shape of a hook rail consists of a wooden slat with hooks

is equipped. You will need the following materials for this:
  • 1 x wooden strip of the desired length, 50 mm width, 20 mm thickness
  • Wall hooks with U-profile in the desired quantity
  • 1 x drill
  • Wood drill bits or self-tapping screws
  • pencil
  •  Folding rule

Hang up garden toolsMake sure that the wooden bar is not too long as it is more stable in a shorter length. In many cases a length of two meters is sufficient. You will also need at least four screws five to seven centimeters long to attach the bar to the wall. The longer your hook bar turns out, the more of these screws will be needed to secure the center in place.
The assembly as follows:

1. Start by drawing evenly spaced intervals for the screws of the selected wall hooks with a pencil. Make sure you leave enough space between the hooks so that you can place a broom next to a rake and shovel, for example.

2. Now pre-drill the holes with a wood drill. This step is not necessary as soon as you use self-tapping screws, as these do not require any pre-drilled holes.

3. Now mark the places for the wall mountings. Two of these should definitely be left and right and the remaining two in places that support the center. It is best to divide longer lasts into quarters, eighths or sixteenths to allow sufficient support. When drawing in, make sure not to place them too close to the edge, otherwise the wood could tear.

4. Pre-drill these holes as well. Of course, this step is not necessary with self-tapping screws. However, drilling makes it easier to drill through the bar, as it is 2.5 centimeters thick.

5. Mount the wall hooks. Use your markings or the pre-drilled holes as a guide.

6. Finally, attach the hook strip to the wall. It is helpful to have a helping hand, especially if you have chosen a longer bar.

As you can see, hook rails are a great way to hang garden tools of all kinds. Devices with a long handle in particular are moved out of the way using a hook rail. If you have a little manual skills, you can even expand this shape of the hook rail. For example, you can adapt a case for devices with blades, including axes, made of wood or leather and attach it to the bar. This protects you from tools that can pose a significant safety hazard. Due to the numerous expansion options, it is enough

already made a strip on the wall to bring the shed into shape.

Store small devices

Many small devices and utensils cannot be stored on the wall using a hook rail. There are numerous storage options from everyday life that you can install to save space and thus create space. The following list gives you an insight into possible objects that you can attach to the wall:

  • Bicycle baskets
  • generally wire baskets
  • Perforated sheets
  • Wooden frame
  • Wooden boards
  • small jute bags
  • Wall brackets for instruments, if not required

Keep toolsPerforated sheets in particular have established themselves in your own workshop or garden shed, as they can be easily mounted on the wall using screws or nails. They offer numerous options for attaching hooks and nails that you can use to hang your small tools. This is just as easy with the other objects. In addition to the perforated sheets, bicycle and wire baskets should be mentioned in particular. These are particularly light and, thanks to the lattice structure, can be attached to the wall in a few simple steps. Best of all, you can even attach the baskets to a door if your walls run out of space. The jute sacks are particularly suitable for small shovels, joint scrapers or pricking sticks, as these are only attached using a screw or nail.
Tip: Before you hang up your garden tools, you should definitely clean them and dry them well. Dirt and moisture lead to rust in numerous utensils, which permanently limits their use and, in the worst case, requires the purchase of a replacement device.

Magnetic strip

Do you know magnetic strips that are used in modern or well-equipped kitchens? You can also make use of this principle in the tool shed or the garden shed. It is true that no heavy equipment can be hung here, but small tools and utensils that are either lost quickly or that you need within a short time. Magnetic strips are available in numerous lengths and widths and can be easily attached to the wall using screws. Once assembled, you can store the clean garden tools like weeding trowels and other items like screwdrivers or tweezers.
Tip: If you are carving or if you want to hang many objects with a thick handle on the magnetic strip, you should mount this on a wooden strip of the same width and then attach it to the wall. This prevents them from falling down if they hang on the magnetic strip at an angle due to the handles.
