In contrast to white asparagus, you do not have to peel the green version. However, you can only freeze green asparagus unprocessed, as it will lose a lot of its flavor when cooked or blanched. When stowing away, make sure that the bars do not stick together. Then you will be able to remove them in portions. If necessary, it is advisable to cut the green asparagus into small pieces beforehand.

Green asparagus cannot be kept indefinitely in the freezer either. Six to eight months after freezing, however, you can still enjoy it without hesitation. Important: do not refreeze thawed sticks.

Use after thawing

You should not defrost green asparagus. Immediately add the sticks to boiling water to maintain the nutritional content. In addition, thawed green asparagus no longer has its crunchy consistency. However, it is still suitable for cooking, for example a delicious creamy asparagus soup. How to process green asparagus after defrosting:

  1. put the green asparagus in boiling water
  2. let it cook for eight to twelve minutes
  3. alternatively, you can grill frozen asparagus
