The appearance of the flowers

The cherry laurel forms many small individual flowers that are in a terminal, racemose inflorescence. They are radial (radial symmetry) and five-fold with a double perianth (flower envelope). They spread a pleasant aromatic scent. Small, spherical fruits develop from the flowers, which change color from green to black during the ripening period.

The heyday

The stone contained in the berries is like all other parts of the plant Laurel cherry poisonous. Since the pulp tastes pleasantly sweet, children might think the berries are edible. You should therefore always cut off the faded umbels if there are small children in your household.
