Brown leaf tips

Brown leaf tips can have two causes:

  • too dry air, especially in winter when the rooms are heated strongly
  • wrong substrate, which has too high a mineral content

Yellow or brown edges

Yellow or brown edges also indicate an excess of minerals. Most of the time the earth is too calcareous. Air that is too dry can also be the trigger. Most often, however, these symptoms occur with overfertilization or overwatering.

Yellow-green leaves

Yellow-green leaves often affect the entire plant. It is very likely that irrigation water that is too calcareous is to blame.

Yellow, falling leaves

The shedding of leaves that are already yellow in color can often be observed in winter. In this case, the plant suffers from a lack of light.

Brown leaves

If the leaves turn completely brown, your houseplant is either suffering from root rot or frost damage. The latter can also apply in the home if the houseplant is exposed to strong drafts.

Yellow, pale leaves

Plants that lose their luminosity lack nutrients.

Treat yellow leaves

As you can see, mistakes in care are mostly to blame for yellow leaves. The choice of location, the watering behavior and the amount of fertilizer used all influence the health of your houseplant. Therefore, adjust the lighting conditions to the seasons. In winter, artificial lighting replaces sunlight if necessary. Only water your plants when the top substrate layer has dried and do not use fertilizers in the winter months. Many plants recover after being repotted.
