Under the right conditions, the goji berry is extremely frugal

In a sufficiently sunny and warm place with a permeable soil substrate, optimal growth conditions are available for the goji berries. After all, not so few garden owners ban this plant from their garden precisely because it uses little care can sometimes tend to proliferate. With the goji berry, the question of nutrient supply is not so much a question, as it can easily get by on barren soils. But the roots should be protected from waterlogging with good drainage.

Compost is sufficient for the nutrient supply

To provide goji berries with the nutrients they need, it is completely sufficient if some compost is distributed around the base of the shrub once a year. Will goji berries be new planted, deposited compost can also be worked directly into the planting hole. In the case of relatively heavy soils, however, some coarse-grained sand should also be used to loosen up the soil structure. When goji berries really seem weakened and

do not set any flowers, then this is usually not due to insufficient fertilization, but rather to one of the following factors.

  • lack of Hardiness young plants planted late
  • Susceptibility to mildew
  • summer drought

Be careful when using plant fertilizers

In principle, special Berry fertilizer(€ 11.35 at Amazon *) from specialist shops can also be used for goji berries. In any case, you should make sure that the fertilizer used does not have an excessively high nitrogen content. In the case of the Goji berries, this would otherwise only stimulate an excessively strong growth of the plant mass, with which usually a lower growth Harvest volume goes hand in hand.

Tips

With regard to the fertilization of the goji berries with compost from your own garden, for reasons of plant protection, care should be taken: Cut material from with mildew not to deposit infected shrubs on their own compost heap, but rather to dispose of them elsewhere.
