Basket press
It is the classic among cider presses because it can be operated by hand and ensures gentle juice production. The pre-sorted grapes are placed in the basket. The fruit is crushed using hydraulic pressure or manual force, so that the juice comes out. A press cloth catches leftover meat, kernels and stems. The great advantage of basket presses is the high yield.
Screw press
The berry press is driven mechanically. By moving the spindle, the pressure plate lowers through the stainless steel basket to the floor and compresses the fruit material. The grape juice runs through the holes in the basket and collects in an outer bowl. The advantage is that you do not need any press cloths and the device is easy to clean. However, small seeds and pieces of fruit can more easily get into the grape juice through the openings.
Steam extractor
These universal juicers are based on the action of heat and are suitable for large quantities of grapes. Fruit stalks can release bitter substances that impair the juice aroma. Put the stalked fruit in the basket provided and fill the lower container with water. The middle part serves as a container for the fruit juice.
When boiling, steam rises, which bursts the cell walls of the grapes and causes the juice to escape. Juice from the steam juicer lasts a little longer than cold-pressed juice due to the effect of the heat. However, valuable vitamins are lost with this method.
Juicer
The so-called slow juicer is an electric food processor that is used for cold juicing. They contain horizontally or vertically mounted screw presses that move at low speed and thus eject the juice. The big plus of these models is that less oxygen reaches the fruit juice when it is pressed and the risk of oxidation is lower.
