Instructions for building the climbing aid
Cut the pieces of wood to the specified dimensions and then smooth the sawed edges. Ideally, you drill the mounting holes before the climbing strips are mounted on the corner supports. This way the wood cannot splinter. Follow these steps:
- To assemble the climbing strips, first fix 2 corner supports with nails and the square strips
- Mount the strips crosswise at a distance of 30 mm from the lower end
- Place a spacer under each of the first and last strips
- Fix the two finished side parts in the upper area with auxiliary pieces
- Now brace the remaining sides and remove the temporary bracket again
- Fasten the corner supports in the middle under the wooden plate with dowels
- Finally mount the wooden ball on the wooden plate
In the next step, paint the climbing support for the clematis with weatherproof paint, ideally matched to the selected flower color of the Clematis. Finally, screw the tent pegs tight so that they give the climbing support and thus also the clematis stability in the bed or tub.
Nice clematis for a climbing obelisk
It is the splendidly blooming hybrids that are ideally suited for cultivation on a rank obelisk. The following varieties thrive up to 180 centimeters high, so that they climb the top of the self-made climbing aid over time.
- 'Königskind': a double-flowering clematis with flowers in bright blue, pure white or deep purple
- 'Mrs. George Jackman ‘has double, white flowers in May / June and August / September
- 'Princess Diana', a summer flowering clematis for the sunny one Location
Every clematis takes 1 to 2 years to grow from the 3rd Year to unfold their full beauty. During this time it conquered the climbing strips of the self-made obelisk with its strong leaf stalks.
