Methods for growing ivy yourself

If there is already ivy in the garden, just dig up a few shoots that have already established roots. But it has to be correct root and not about sticky roots. Normal roots do not develop from these.

Pull ivy from cuttings

Cut off young shoots from an existing plant without adherent roots. the Cuttings should be about six inches long.

Remove any lower sheets. Score the lower stems lightly to make them root faster. Put the cuttings in a glass with water. Alternatively, you can prepare pots Potting soil and put the shoot pieces in there.

In the glass you can see when roots have formed. When growing ivy in a nursery pot, wait until new leaf buds appear on the ivy.

Propagate ivy using sinkers

New roots form within a short time at the scratches.

Be careful when sowing

Only when ivy has reached its age does it bloom and form the characteristic fruit. You can grow ivy from these by simply scattering them on the ground and covering them lightly with soil.

Remember, however, that the berries in particular are highly toxic and must never get into the hands of children.
