Cool and let dry
To prevent mold growth, do the following:
- Spread the moist coffee powder from the fully automatic coffee machine or espresso machine on a tray or on a large, flat plate. To do this, crumble the firmly pressed pomace. - Cut open the coffee filter at the side.
- Put everything outside on sunny days. Here the powder needs about a day to dry.
- Alternatively, you can heat it in the oven at 80 degrees for half an hour. In order not to use up unnecessary energy, you can simply push the coffee grounds in after using the pipe. As a rule, the residual heat is sufficient to kiln the powder.
- If you have a microwave, place the pomace in the device for five minutes at full power.

After drying, the prütt should feel as powdery again as it did before the hot drink was prepared.
Store dried coffee powder correctly
Especially in the winter months, the collected coffee grounds are not used in their entirety immediately, but must be stored temporarily.
- Let the dried coffee grounds cool down well.
- Transfer to an airtight container.
- Closing.
- After a few hours, check to see if there is a damp condensation on the lid.
- If this is the case, repeat the drying process, because then there is too much residual moisture in the coffee powder. This would be sufficient for the undesired formation of mold.
- Store the well-sealed container with the coffee grounds in a dry, cool and dark place, for example in the cellar.
Areas of application for dry coffee grounds
The dried pomace can be used in a variety of ways in the household:
- Cleaning the grill grate: Coffee grounds make the chemical club for cleaning the grate superfluous after the barbecue. Just put some of the powder on a damp sponge and sand away the grease stains.
- Skin peeling: Mix the dried coffee grounds with a little oil to make a paste. Dead skin cells can be gently rubbed off with this peeling, which is also said to work against cellulite.
- More nutrient-rich, organic fertilizer:Coffee grounds are high in nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus and thus the same substances that are found in many fertilizers. Work the dry pomace lightly into the soil so that the nutrients are available for the plants.
Tips
Dried coffee grounds are suitable for weakly acidifying very basic soil. In order to find out the correct dosage, it is advisable to check the pH value of the soil occasionally when using the powder regularly.
