Bring in passion flower before winter
It is true that many breeds, often hybrids, are considered winter hardy to a certain extent; although even the breeders admit that this insensitivity does not apply to every specimen. If you have such a variety that has been declared as hardy, you can of course try to overwinter outside. However, you should pack your Passiflora neatly, at least the roots must be kept warm. If the upper shoots freeze off, that's not a big deal: the plant simply sprouts again in the following spring. Frozen roots, however, inevitably lead to the death of the passion flower. It is better to play it safe and bring the plant into the house. Here it is best to overwinter in a light and frost-free, but cool room at a maximum of 10 ° C.

Care in winter
In a cool winter, you reduce the maintenance measures significantly. Reduce the amount of fertilizer from the beginning / middle of August and stop fertilizing completely in the course of September. In winter, the passion flower should only be watered, but much less often and not as abundantly as in summer.
Some yellow leaves are perfectly normal, but there will be more and overall the plant looks rather poor, check on various diseases. If necessary, water a little more (if the soil is too dry) or fertilize but one more time. You will start again from February / March the full care program - but slowly, to slowly get the Passiflora in the mood for spring.Tips & Tricks
Since passion flowers usually grow very large, they perish an autumn pruning not around - otherwise the climbing plants cannot be put away in the winter quarters. But don't worry: radical pruning will even make it easier for you to overwinter, as the plant then needs less light.
