Pine trees need light

One of the things that is part of caring for a jaw is to ensure there is sufficient light. From the beginning you should choose a sunny location. Avoid letting your pine grow too close to buildings or walls or other tall trees robbing it of light. If you keep your pine in the pot, it is best to place it on the windowsill so that the lower branches get light as well.

to water

Although the pine can withstand prolonged drought, it is advisable to keep the soil moist all year round. However, you should avoid waterlogging.

Keep the pine tree as a bonsai

Regular shortening of the shoots is necessary to maintain the bonsai shape of your pine tree. This is how you do it:

  • Make back cuts in winter when the least amount of resin escapes from the cut
  • in July and August, cut back all overly long shoots to 1 cm, pluck off old needles
  • Snap off buds from September to November
  • repeat the process in March or April
  • in May remove the new candles and young shoots
  • remove the old needles from the previous year in October

Recognize diseases

The following care mistakes are often responsible for growth disorders:

  • incorrect watering (waterlogging)
  • Repot

If three-year-old needles turn yellow, there is nothing to worry about. This is a natural process, it is different when new needles are discolored. A fungal disease could be present here.
