You don't necessarily have to have a green thumb, but you should be familiar with your plants. Most plants die due to our care mistakes. It doesn't have to be. Many plant lovers simply do not know their way around. Most mistakes are made when pouring. Few plants die if they don't get enough water; most drown instead. Too much water, especially stagnant water in the saucer or planter, is hardly tolerated by any plant (of course there are also plants that like that). Mistakes can also be made when fertilizing. Over-fertilization is worse than not fertilizing at all. If you are lucky, the plants just shoot up and die. If you are unlucky, they can die too.
