At home from March, outdoors from April
As early as March you can sowing take a targeted approach. Then the seeds can be grown at home. The young plants should not be planted out before mid-May. If you shy away from preculture, you can alternatively tackle direct sowing outdoors from April.

Buy the seeds or harvest them yourself
Let's be honest: Anyone can buy stone cabbage seeds. It is much more fun to harvest the seeds from your own existing plants. The prerequisite for this is that you harvest the seeds in late summer or autumn. They are very fine, small and round-flat. You can also use the seed heads cut off and take the seeds at home.
Start the sowing
Fill small pots or a bowl with them Sowing soil. You should plan several seeds per pot. That is how it goes:
- Cover the seeds lightly with soil and press down
- spray with an atomizer
- in a bright place z. B. on the windowsill in the living room
Germination starts at 15 ° C (ideally 18 to 20 ° C). You are also welcome to place the seed pots on the balcony or terrace, provided it is frost-free there. Caution: Remember to check daily whether the substrate is moist.
The seeds germinate after 7 to 10 days. With good care the young plants can be pricked out later. But not too much of a good thing! If several plants stand together in one place, denser clumps form.
Plant out in a sunny spot
With preculture, the stone herb plants are moved to a sunny location after the ice saints planted. If necessary, partially shaded locations are also suitable. It is important that the earth is permeable and humus.
Tips
Alyssum often grows up on its own (self-sowing). You don't need to do anything except cut off all of the withered flowers so the seeds can form.
