General information about the appearance of martens
Martens that appear near people are almost always stone martens. It has bristly fur of gray-brown color with a white bib that extends from the neck to the feet. They have small, protruding, round ears and a rounded, pointed nose. Beech martens are often out and about at dusk or at night and live in caves, walls, barns or on the Attic.

Differences in size depending on gender
Marten males are called males and marten females in technical jargon. In terms of size, there are significant differences between the two sexes: While male martens are up to 90cm tall (including Tail) and can weigh up to 2.5 kg, the females, i.e. the female marten, remain a bit smaller and only weigh up to 1.5 kg heavy.
Tail and body length of stone martens
Beech martens have a rather long tail that can measure up to 30cm. The trunk is on average 40 to 60 cm long. The tail is bushy, completely gray-brown and tapering at the tip.

The size of the pine marten
Pine marten are only slightly smaller than their relatives: their head body length (body length without tail) is 45 to 58 centimeters; the tail is also somewhat shorter at 16 to 28cm. Thus pine marten come to a total length of 61 to 86cm. In this case, too, the females are slightly smaller than the males and up to a third lighter.
