The convertible rose - a verbena plant
Verbenaceae are a large family of plants with around 75 genera and 3,000 species. They are closely related to the mint family. Many popular ornamental trees such as the convertible rose belong to this family of plants. They are mainly native to tropical and southern Africa as well as tropical America.

One of the most famous and at the same time largest representatives of this family is the teak tree, which can reach a height of up to fifty meters. Verbena is a species that has been abducted around the world and is now also growing wild in our country. It is a nitrogen indicator in gappy weed corridors and grows wild on paths, walls and fences.
Growth habit
The verbena plants are mostly herbaceous small shrubs with often square stems. The leaves are arranged opposite to one another, as with the convertible rose, egg-shaped and standing individually. Leaves that grow in whorls are less common and can then be made up of three parts.
The flowers are racemose like those of the convertible rose, sometimes spike-shaped or zymo-like. Pollination is carried out by insects. The convertible rose also exudes a very characteristic scent that attracts numerous bees and butterflies.
The growth form of the convertible rose
The convertible rose grows up to 100 centimeters. the Blooming time extends from June to October. If the flower umbels are not cleaned out regularly, many small, bright black fruits will form in autumn.
