Tying together in living spaces

If you are forced to minimize the volume of the palm a little, you should be careful not to destroy the habit of the plant. The overhanging pinnate leaves or attractive fans make up the special charm of this plant. It would be a shame to force it into a narrow framework, as this would cause it to lose its characteristic appearance.

Use soft plastic binding rod for this measure. Work in pairs. Have someone gently gather the sheets of paper, and then tie them gently and not too tightly.

Tie up for wintering

Before moving to winter storage, it is sometimes unavoidable to reduce the space required by the plant. Proceed as follows:

  • Combine the sheets in the upper area.
  • Do not tie too tightly with a rope.
  • Under no circumstances wire, as the sharp and hard material will damage the fronds.
  • Make sure that enough air can still circulate.

Should the palm overwinter outdoors, The following procedure, in which a hose ring is used, has proven itself:

  • Tie the opposite fronds together with raffia.
  • Work from the inside out.

The foliage is then summarized:

  • A piece of old Garden hose place under the palm. The length is based on how far the circumference of the plant should be reduced.
  • Connect the hose to the ring using a screw connection or assembly tape.
  • Push it up carefully.
  • Additionally fix with raffia so that the hose ring does not slide down again due to the pressure of the fronds.

In the case of large and old palms that are very valuable, it is worth purchasing a special binding frame. This is put over the plant and closed so that the circumference is minimized, but the leaves are not damaged.

Tips

Only tie palm trees together for wintering if you protect them with additional winter protection made of fleece or with a mobile palm house. Otherwise, water could collect in the heart and cause rot.
