Coffee grounds (without additives) should always be composted if you can. He

Coffee contains a number of nutrients that are also found in commercially available fertilizers:

• nitrogen

Coffee grounds in compost are particularly cheap for plants that like slightly acidic soil. Also know cucumbers, tomatoes and zucchini fertilizer to appreciate from coffee grounds. Only seedlings should not be fed with this fertilizer yet.

Do not compost wet coffee grounds

If coffee grounds are placed too wet on the compost, molds he very quickly. This also applies to large quantities of composting.

Let the coffee grounds dry out on a plate beforehand so that it becomes nice and crumbly. Then it can also be better mixed with other materials such as ash, banana peel and other compost materials.

You can also compost coffee filters made of paper. Other wrappings such as capsules must of course not be placed on the compost!

Note the pH value

Coffee grounds slightly acidify the soil. Compost with a lot of coffee grounds is therefore not so suitable for plants that do not like it too acidic. However, by adding lime you can ensure that the soil does not become over-acidic.

Check the pH of your soil by having a soil sample examined in the laboratory. Then you are on the safe side.
