When can the tree go outside?

Olive trees are only partially frost-resistant. In milder regions they can withstand a few minus degrees, even if there is no appropriate winter protection. As soon as the thermometer falls into the double-digit minus range, the Mediterranean plant will be damaged if it is overwintered outdoors. Put the bucket in frost-free winter quarters to be on the safe side.

Hazards during the winter

Olive trees are evergreen. Since the foliage is preserved all year round, there is a great risk of damage to the foliage and excessive leaf loss in the cold season. Stress from drought, frost damage or too little light force the plant to shed its leaves. Therefore, winter care is of great importance.

Take care of good care

Water the root ball regularly so that the soil doesn't dry out completely. However, the roots cannot tolerate waterlogging. It can be placed in the open air at an earlier point in time if you set up the tree well protected. As soon as it rises above twelve degrees, the wood moves permanently to its original place of growth.

Choose location

When the tree has spent the winter in a room, it is carefully accustomed to its old location outdoors. The leaves require a slow approach to higher amounts of light and UV rays so they don't get burned. In addition, the crop should not be directly exposed to rain and cold winds. A roofed place on the house wall, where the facade radiates heat at night, is suitable for acclimatization.
