What to look for when planning

A look at the municipal regulations helps to avoid trouble later, because it specifies what, when and at what time of the year may be burned outdoors. Using garden waste or the last hedge cut as fuel for the garden fire is strictly forbidden in most federal states. If the fire brigade suddenly stands in front of the garden gate without being called, the romantic evening can be very expensive.

What is the safest way to set up lights in the garden?

As far as the good flammability with low smoke development is concerned, untreated and as dry as possible beech wood is the very first choice. The flame with the wood of conifers, which due to the relatively high resin content, is much more prone to dangerous sparks, is less calm. Spirit and gasoline are of course taboo when starting a fire, if only in the interests of the safety of your children. And finally, even with the greatest care, a bucket or a full watering can is always good if it is around in an emergency.

Where is the right place for the garden fire?

Paved areas or areas filled with gravel are best used as a location for garden stoves, fire bowls or brick fireplaces. When planning, the required space must not be forgotten, which is required for seating or tables that are as sheltered as possible from the wind. And finally: Fireplaces under which cables or pipes run are not necessarily ideal, at least not for the solidly brick barbecue oven. The optimal and safest place depends primarily on the design of your new fireplace. The following variants are particularly popular with garden and property owners:

  • brick hearths
  • Storage or Swedish fire
  • Metal fireplaces (bowls, baskets or pillars)
  • Fire pits for grilling
  • Gas fireplaces
