The alliin contained in the onion is largely responsible for the intense taste of the juice. Onion juice that you make from table onions is sometimes too hot for children. Therefore, it is preferable to use milder vegetable onions for the little ones.

preparation

  1. Peel the onion and cut into large cubes.
  2. Pour into a clean, rinsed jar.
  3. Pour the sweetener over it and seal the jar.
  4. Place in the refrigerator for a few hours until juice has formed.
  5. Use granulated sugar, shaking occasionally.

The juice will keep well sealed for about three days. If the cold is not over, you should prepare fresh onion juice.

How often should the cough syrup be taken?

You can take the natural remedy three times a day for coughs, and even every hour for severe symptoms. The dose for children is one teaspoon and two for adults. Leave the onion juice in your mouth for a while so that the local antitussive effect occurs quickly.

Can onion juice be overdosed?

An overdose of the agent is rather unlikely. If you want to be on the safe side, you should not consume more than 50 grams of fresh onions per day. The reason is the substance diphenylamine contained in onions, which, if consumed over a long period of time and in very high doses, can lead to kidney damage.

Which side effects can occur?

If you have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients of the onion, you must not take onion juice.

Known side effects against onion juice are contact eczema and irritation of the nasal mucosa and / or conjunctiva. If you find this out, contact your doctor.

Tips

Always close the jar with the onion juice carefully so that the valuable ingredients do not evaporate. In addition, the intense odor settles unpleasantly in the refrigerator.
