Where does the horn leaf feel at home?

The horn leaf prefers stagnant or slowly flowing water, so it also fits well in a garden pond. The evergreen herb blooms only rarely and quite inconspicuously. Are horn leaves and fish allowed in the same pond?

The horn leaf does not harm the fish. The opposite is more likely because it creates a lot of oxygen that the fish need to live. In addition, the horn leaf filters pollutants from the water, improving its quality and preventing the excessive spread of algae.

At the same time, the floating horn leaf can serve as a hiding place, especially for young fish. So they are safe from predators. Female fish also like to use a clump of these floating plants for spawning.

How do you care for the horn leaf?

The horn leaf is very easy to care for. It multiplies all by itself and does not have to be fertilized or watered. Not even plants you need the horn leaf. But it doesn't work completely without care. You have to prevent your horn leaf from multiplying unrestrainedly in order to keep your garden pond in balance over the long term.

If the horn leaf spreads too much, fish off some of the plants. It's easy to do with a long-handled one Rake. You should trim the long tendrils a little about twice a year. Cut off the rear end of the main shoot and leave the front part with the young shoot tips in the water. The horn leaf will begin to grow again without any problems.
