Autumn is harvest time for seeds - this is how it works

If a sage bush is allowed to bloom, it invests all of its energy in the growth of fruits and seeds. When autumn is just around the corner, the flowers have completely withered. Now the ripe Klausen fruits with the coveted seeds are hidden behind it. This is how the seed harvest succeeds:

  • Cut off the inflorescences on a dry day
  • Using a fine-meshed sieve, wipe off the flowers and seed pods from each stem with your fingers

After the sage seeds have been allowed to dry for 1-2 days, they are kept until the sowing stored in a dark, airtight container.

At the end of March or beginning of April, get the seeds out and let them soak in water or chamomile tea for a few hours. In these steps the sowing Further:

Tips & Tricks

Do not be surprised if the self-harvested sage seeds transform into a completely different plant than the mother plant. Only the seeds of pure species produce a plant with exactly the same attributes as its ancestors when sown. If you want to be on the safe side, you can buy certified seeds from specialist retailers.
