The two options
When buying an Anubia, there is usually an idea of which part of the aquarium it could decorate. Based on this, you can choose from the following options:
- plant on the ground
- as a ride-on on root cultivate

Plant in the ground
The bottom of an aquarium is not covered with earth. But the Anubia can also be planted in the sand. However, it is reported that some rhizomes begin to rot deep in the sand.
- First plant Anubia in the sand
- then pull it out a little
- the upper part of the roots should be washed with water
Alternatively, the Anubia can be tied to a large, flat stone. This is then buried in the sand while most of the Anubia peeks out of the sand.
Cultivate as a ride-on
All Anubia species are best cultivated as so-called epiphytes. This is also the best way to "plant" them in the aquarium. The Anubia gets an opportunity to cling to anything that gives it support for secure, upright growth.
A large deadwood root is best for this task. It does not disturb the harmonious overall picture in the aquarium, it is even a decorative element in itself.
Tips
Suitable sorts that do not rot quickly in the water are available in numerous aquarium shops. Ready-made solutions including plants are also offered.
Untie Anubia
Anubia forms adhesive roots with which it can hold onto the large root provided by itself. But immediately after getting up she still needs our help. It must first be placed in the best possible way and then fixed in the position found. With a special aquarium plant glue, this happens quite inconspicuously.
Solid threads or a fishing line can also be used for tying. It doesn't matter that these fetters are visible. Because as soon as the plant can hold itself independently, it can be removed again.
