Wasps mainly fly at fruits

When the maiden vines show their inconspicuous flowers in June and July, the time for the bees begins. The hard-working nectar collectors like to fly to the Wild Wine often and often, but in many cases they are harmless. The same applies to numerous other insects that also enjoy the flower nectar and the fruits of the plant, such as hover flies. On the other hand, it looks completely different with wasps, which also increasingly fly to the Wild Wine from around the end of August / beginning of September. The stinging insects, however, are less concerned with the flowers than with the Fruit sets and fruits apart. Since wasps can become very aggressive, especially at the end of summer, Wilder Wein should not be planted near frequently frequented garden areas, such as the terrace.

The Wild Wein is teeming with life

In general, the dense foliage of the Wild Wine is teeming with life: Not only that the wasps like the fruits of the virgin vine snacking, they also prefer to build their nests in the dense foliage - just like many species of birds, as well as mice and others Small rodents. The latter, incidentally, like to use the tendrils to get to higher floors and thus also into the houses, for example through open windows or over the roof.

With planned cutbacks you should consider the breeding seasons of the birds as much as possible so as not to disturb them when they are rearing their young.

Measures against wasps

Basically, wasps - like all wild animals - are protected by the Federal Nature Conservation Act and may not be killed without a reason. This means that it is also possible to set up so-called wasp traps or wasp traps. Foaming of wasp nests is prohibited. However, in the event of severe danger, it is possible to have the animals carried out by a specialist Exterminator remove and relocate. Some local fire brigades also have specially trained wasp experts who can help you with your problem.

Tips

Many gardeners swear by wasp traps in which the unloved animals drown. Unfortunately, these traps are deadly not only to wasps but also to other insects such as bees.
