Bamboos aim high, but they don't grow like trees

A bamboo stalk only shoots to its final height during the growing season. Then there is a break. In contrast to trees, it does not have a comparable growth in length and thickness. Only next year will the new generation of stems overtake the previous one.

The situation is different with real or rhizome-forming bamboos. Here the rhizomes spread underground up to 10 meters away from the mother plant. They form widely ramified new stalks that explode very quickly into the air.

Good care - good growth

The better you care for and fertilize your bamboo, the better it will grow. You can do that:

  • Cut young bamboo plants after three years at the earliest
  • with lime-free bamboo water or pour rainwater
  • fertilize regularly and shower off
  • Soil pH should not be higher than 7.0
