The red lamp cleaner grass is sensitive to frost
This ornamental grass originally comes from the warm Mediterranean region and North Africa. For this reason, in contrast to almost all other Pennisetum species, the plant is not completely winter-proof.

Hibernate potted plants
The red lamp cleaner grass can be cultivated very well in a sufficiently large container. As soon as the temperatures drop into the single-digit range, bring this back into the house.
- Pour penetrating once more.
- The ambient temperature in the winter quarters should be between eight and twelve degrees.
- Otherwise the red lamp cleaner grass is undemanding. Don't let the root ball dry out completely, however, and water occasionally.
As soon as the temperatures rise again, you can bring the non-winter-hardy ornamental grass back to its original place. If there is another threat of cool nights, you should temporarily treat the plant with one Plant fleece protection.

- protected by a wall,
- to warm,
- low wind
Place, you can dare to spend the winter outdoors. Proceed as follows:
- Tie the long ears together in a loose clump.
- Do not cut them back, because they are a natural protection against the cold.
- Spread a thick layer of spruce twigs, bark mulch or straw in the root area.
- Wrap the lower half of the grass with a special plant protection fleece.
- Pour and Fertilize you don't have to during the winter months.
As soon as the temperatures rise, the winter protection is removed. Now you should shorten the stalks. Work something Compost soil into the soil so that the ornamental grass has sufficient nutrients for budding.
Tips
The red pennon cleaner grass feels particularly at home in full sun. Even though it tolerates drought relatively well, you should water thoroughly on warm summer days. A drainage layer made of gravel or sand ensures the health of the roots.
