When do you repot the Strelitzia?

It is usually necessary to repot a Strelitzia every 3 years. Frequent repotting should be avoided for the plant. Older specimens can also be repotted less often because they no longer grow as quickly. The best time is in spring after overwintering or in summer after flowering.

Warning: the roots are extremely fragile!

One should not proceed in a radical and crude manner here. The roots of the Strelizie is considered to be extremely sensitive. The fleshy roots break easily. If they are injured, the flowers may not appear.

Take out of the pot and shake off the old earth

First, the plant is carefully removed from the old pot with the root ball. Shake off the old earth. Now would be a good time to share the perennial come in case you want to multiply it.

Find the right substrate or mix it yourself

If a tall bucket is ready, you can start filling it up with soil. But which earth is suitable? You can use conventional Potting soil or use potted plant soil. Alternatively, you can mix the substrate yourself, for example from compost, sand or fine-grained lava and coconut. It is important that it is permeable and has a pH value below 7.

What should you watch out for afterwards?

After repotting, the plant must not be used fertilize. However, watering is crucial in the subsequent period so that the Strelitzia can grow. It should not be cut, as this puts additional stress on it.

Tips

In the years between repotting, the top layer of soil can be replaced.
