Is birch poisonous to humans?

Birch trees are one of those special types of trees that are even edible - some parts, of course. That Leaf of the birch tree can be of great service to you when processed into tea. Due to the flavonoids, essential oils and vitamins it contains, the consumption of birch leaves can contribute to a healthy diet and combat various symptoms of illness.

The same applies to birch buds: You can also consume these without any problems or brew them into a tea with a slightly woody aroma. Birch sap and birch sugar are also well-known edible and positively usable products of the birch tree. In this respect, the tree does not contain any substances that are toxic to humans.

Animals and birches

Since birch extracts have a strong dehydrating effect, caution is advised with some animals. Although there can be no question of a poisonous effect here either, some pets feel less well after nibbling on birch leaves or the bark. These include, in particular, budgies. Basically, there is nothing to be said against consumption in moderation in the case of birds or horses, for example.
