In this way, cuttings can be propagated in no time at all

As an evergreen subshrub, sage is predestined for propagation by means of Cuttings. If the plant is in full sap in summer, this is the best time. How to do it right:

  • From July cut head cuttings with a length of 6-10 centimeters
  • Remove the lower leaves so that 2 pairs of leaves remain
  • Growing pots(€ 16.68 at Amazon *) Fill with a mixture of herb soil and sand and moisten

Put your pupils in a greenhouse or put a transparent hood over them. Within 2-3 weeks, the rooting is so advanced that the young sage can be planted in the bed or in the pot. It is important to note that the substrate must not dry out at any time.

Propagate sage by lowering - this is how it works

In early summer, choose a healthy, vital and not lignified shoot. You pull this to the ground and mark the point of contact. A small furrow is made there and the sinker is covered with earth and, if necessary, a stone. The tip of the shoot looks out from the ground and is tied to a wooden stick. It continues in these steps:

  • The mother plant nourishes the sinker while it is rooting
  • Keep the soil constantly moist without causing waterlogging
  • If the tip drives out again, an independent root system has formed

The growth of new roots is accelerated if you scratch the shoot a little with a razor blade and only then bury it. At the end, the connection between mother plant and offshoot can be severed with a sharp knife cut. On the new Location planted, a vital young sage develops in the same year.

So breeding succeeds by sowing

To avoid the unpredictability of direct sowing, we recommend the sowing of sage on the windowsill. This has the advantage that the early young plants start the season with a stable growth advantage. How to do it right:

  • end of March Growing pots fill with peat sand or emaciated herb soil
  • In each pot 1-2 Sage seeds Press about 1 centimeter deep into the substrate
  • Spray with water and put in the heatable Mini greenhouse(€ 25.14 at Amazon *) place

At 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, you can look forward to the first seedlings within 7 to 21 days. Keep the substrate slightly moist during this time. In mid-May, plant the young sage in the bed at a distance of 30-40 centimeters.
