When stressed by drought, the spherical maple leaves become limp

As more typical Heart root if a spherical maple spreads its roots predominantly just below the soil surface. Only in loose, sandy-loamy soil do the strands reach a depth of 80 cm and more. Therefore, the tree is dependent on rain for a balanced water balance. If the sky keeps its locks closed, drought stress is inevitable and the leaves hang limply. This is to be done now:

  • Water the globe maple regularly with normal tap water for the first 5 years
  • Thoroughly water older trees during summer drought
  • Two to three times a week Water hose Let it run for 30 minutes

By not watering every day in summer, but less frequently and penetratingly, you promote deeper root growth.

Tar stains and powdery mildew disfigure the foliage - this is to be done

Black spots with a yellow border are the classic symptom of tar spot disease. An unsightly, floury-gray coating indicates

mildew there. Both fungal infections spoil the shapely leaves on the spherical maple. How to act correctly:

  • Tar stains: remove all maple leaves from the garden in autumn to break the pathogen's development cycle
  • mildew: cut off all infected leaves and burn them
  • Then spray the crown with a mix of water and fresh milk in a ratio of 9: 1

Treatment with chemical fungicides is unsuccessful in the case of tar spot disease and unnecessary in the case of powdery mildew. It is important to note that you do not dispose of infected globe maple leaves on the compost heap. Burn the foliage or otherwise get it out of the garden so that the fungal spores don't spread from wind or rain again the next year.

Tips

Already leaves a ball maple in the weeks after planting its leaves drooping? Then you have planted the young plant too deeply in the ground. The planting depth within the nursery should be maintained as precisely as possible in the garden. Otherwise, the roots will suffer from a lack of oxygen and stop supplying the crown.
