When is the best time to plant currants?

Like almost all berry bushes, currants grow the fastest if you pick them up in the fall plants. This is especially true for bare-root bushes that were delivered without soil or that you yourself increased to have.

The soil is well moistened in autumn. It is then sufficient to water the freshly planted shrub properly once. Further watering is only necessary if autumn is unusually dry.

If you missed the best autumn planting time, you should wait until early spring to plant the currants. You then have to make sure that the shrub receives enough moisture.

Since the currant is set so deep into the ground that the bush base is underground, it is advisable to prune the plant beforehand.
