Although the passion flower species mentioned are quite hardy, they also require some preparation and protection from winter and frost. It is important that only planted passion flowers should be overwintered outside. If the plants are in a pot or bucket, the probability is quite high that the root ball will freeze through and the plant will die. Passion flowers should be planted in a sheltered place - for example near a bush, a house wall or a wall. To protect the roots from the cold, cover them with leaves and sticks.
